Dragon Scale Project

This project was a request from Alex Streeter Design. The bracelet was carved in wax by Alex many years ago, and the company wanted to extend the collection using the bracelet pattern across other styles. A ring version of the bracelet as well as two styles of earring were made from the original design. It was very important to keep Alex’s hand and preserve design integrity for collectors of his work.

The bracelet was 3D scanned to capture all the details of the original wax carving. The meshes were then imported into ZBrush to isolate the pattern.

The isolated pattern was imported into Rhino and flattened. A ring blank was modeled in the same style as the bracelet. The pattern was then scaled down to the appropriate proportion for the ring and wrapped to fit the curvature. All parts and tools were exported to ZBrush.

The imported geometry was divided into subtools. Polygroups were created for the pattern to thicken the ribs and make adjustments. It was then shelled to add thickness to the assembly. Details were added to the shank to match the bracelet. A single watertight mesh was made for final blending and smoothing. Model was exported to Rhino for spruing and documentation.

Two more styles of earring and a necklace motif were made from scale pattern.
